Dorrie Milner - March People in France 1940

Part two from the Best Christmas Yet 1934.

"For some years the two daughters of Mr. D. Milner, of High Street, March, have held positions in France with well known French families. After the collapse of that country the eldest daughter, Miss M. Milner, managed to get away and arrived at March some time ago. For seven weeks nothing had been heard from her sister Miss D. Milner, for whom much anxiety was felt by her relatives. On Tuesday, however, news was received by air mail via New York, that Miss Milner was safe just outside the occupied zone in France"
Cambs. Times Aug. 16th 1940

This is Dorrie Milner's photo album of her journey back to England.

Dorrie Milner - My Best Christmas Yet 1934

A story in two parts. The first part is the story of Dorrie Milner (an English nanny) and her French friend Beatrice (who Dorrie was caring for) Best Christmas Yet spent in Otz, Austria in 1934. The second part is Dorrie's escape from occupied France in 1940 and the link to that is here.

"In 1934 I took a young French girl to the Austrian Tyrol for Winter. We stayed as paying guests with an Austrian princess whose family had been ruined in the First World War."
